Commercial Property, Whitby

Spatial planning, overarching design concepts "themes" followed by detailed interior design schemes and FF&E for an iconic Grade 2 listed building in the heart of Whitby.

An iconic Grade II listed property in the heart of Whitby is undergoing a transformation. After a fairly lengthy process, which took longer than anticipated, the planning application has finally been approved and work can now commence to turn the top three floors which have most recently been used as offices into luxury holiday apartments.

The building has suffered neglect over the years and unsympathetic alterations by the previous owners and this project will ensure as much of the character and architectural detailing is retained and restored which is important to the client and everyone involved.

The client brief is to work with the architects plans and establish the optimum layout for the kitchen, bathrooms and fixed and loose furniture along with detailed design concepts, FF&E and support in procuring products. The design concepts aim to delight and not be the expected or the norm offering luxury with a punch.

Key to the designs is creating “themes” so that each apartment has an identity whilst ensuring there is cohesion between the three floors and respect is paid to the provenance of the building.

The spatial planning stage has been completed and the overall design direction agreed. The detailed design concepts for the apartments and communal areas have been presented to my client and they are delighted with them. As work progresses and I can share more information on what the interiors will look like I will update this page. Needless to say I am excited to be working on such a stunning building and with incredibly respectful and bold client's.
